The days are hot and long. The sun takes its time to set at the end of long lazy days filled with the beach or the pool, the hiking or biking trails, the cross-country trip or the backyard party, the sense is that the end of summer is on the horizon. Making the transition from summer to band camp begins in the few weeks before band camp begins. Mostly mental, just bringing the thought of opening your instrument case can either bring excitement or dread. Go ahead, get your horn, sticks, flag/rifle out. What do you remember? What did you forget?
Band Camp is coming. The last week of July brings the first time all of us will have been together since graduation. Last year's juniors are now seniors; time to make your mark! Sophomores, now juniors, and freshmen, now sophomores, you are the leaders and will set the bar for the incoming freshmen. Freshmen are entering the high school world and their first year experience will set the stage for the future of The Pride.
2019 will ask you to give your best effort every day. Dragons, our 2019 show, is demanding on all levels. The field show will be unlike any done at EHS yet. It is musically demanding. In fact, the entire year will be musically demanding. You will grow and learn to become artists, not just a group of musicians that play music together. Our Fall Schedule is busy, the football games alone will get us moving, the tournaments will keep us moving. For the first year ever, we will be competing in a competitive band review (AKA Parade Competition), and learning how to do something simple very skillfully will open you up to a new world of achievement.
I invite you to join me in this journey of excellence and fun!
Mr. G
